- Kallias was born in Werlyt in the north, near the mountainous border with the Republic of Garlemald. A few years after his birth, Garlemald conquered Nhalmasque, and then waged war and conquered the northern territories, including Werlyt.
- Kallias was born ill and frequently had bouts of pain and infection. His father Stian, a healer, had to tend to him more or less constantly. When his father died, his condition took a turn for worse, and his younger sister Otonia was forbidden from seeing him often due to his health issues.
- His mother Tyra, a dyemaker, remarried her assistant Althaea and did her best to preserve Kallias's health. While he was isolated, he spent time reading and imagining distant places, as well as sitting in the garden.
- At 17, Kallias's health once again took a turn as he caught an infection that turned into pneumonia. On his deathbed with his health failing, a tricky lesser voidsent named Halphas came to consume him, but Kallias tried to corner him into a pact, begging to get the chance to live. He tried to trick the voidsent and in exchange Halphas agreed to the pact, so long as one of the conditions was that he could never lie again.
- Kallias's health was sustained by Halphas, and his tongue was marked with a black pact marking. In exchange for his health, Kallias agreed to give up his ability to lie and to occasionally find suitable souls for Halphas to consume.
- Now in the best health of his life, Kallias was able to start interacting more with his family. However, his condition caused strain between them, as he could only give his unfiltered opinions at any time, making him come across callous and harsh. His relationship strained with his mother and stepmother and even his beloved little sister, he elected to move away and start to work and meet others.
- For a brief time, Kallias worked at a library maintained by Imperial forces. He came to resent the Empire, especially given the destruction of countless books, especially on religion and mythology in Werlyt and other regions. He visited home occasionally to try to maintain his relationship with his family, though it remained distant.
- During this time, the Empire began its testing of biological weapons, which would eventually lead to the development of Black Rose. Werlyt became an experiment ground for these weapons, and just before arriving for a visit, Kallias learned that the water supply of the town he had grown up in had been poisoned. Though he hurried, his family had already succumbed, with the exception of his stepmother Althaea who told him what happened.
- Unsure what to do with himself and maintaining the empty estate, Kallias turned to fortune telling for guidance, and eventually took up the trade himself. He left Werlyt for Eorzea, desperate to distance himself from the Empire and his lost family, and became a nomadic fortune teller.
- He spent many years wandering the reaches of Eorzea and traveling to various locales, and found himself always wanting. He wasn't able to keep many friends or lovers due to his 'curse' and felt he always pushed others away. Even still he desired to help others in some way, and thus read fortunes and helped with oneiromancy -- curing others' nightmares.
